Practice Makes Perfect :)

For this weeks blog we were required to analyze our writing and how far it has come since we started this class about 11 weeks ago. This blog actually took me a long time to think about how to write it and what to write about exactly. I finally just decided to just talk about the different ways I have improved. Oh yeah I think I have improved and I can actually say that I do not hate English anymore. I know starting this class I hated it because it was my worse subject, it has always been a challenge, because it has never really grabbed or kept my interest. I have always liked math and sciences over English. Looking back at the different samples of my writing from before this semester and even at the beginning of this semester it has definitely improved. It has gotten a whole lot better in many different ways.
The first way that my writing has improved is the grammar. i had a horrible sense of grammar before this semester started. It is still not perfect but it has changed a lot. I noticed this because of this blog assignment. I even went back and took some time to read some of the stuff i had written prior to this class. And you know what I noticed; I noticed that I was an even worse writer than I am now. I mean I am not a great or even a good writer but I have improved a whole lot. I think it may have something to do with just actually taking the time to write, proof read and actually think about what is going to be said. So just by taking the time to read the things I write before turning them in I have gotten better with the order of words and things.
Another thing that has improved with my writing is how long it takes me to actually write things. Before when I had a writing assignment it took me forever and a year to do it. I procrastinated so much because I do not like to write. And I never knew where to begin, so it took me four times as long as it does now. Now, and I think it is because I write so often, I can write a whole blog in around an hour and a paper in a shorter amount of time then before. As much as I dreaded this class from my first semester at AVC, which is why I waited so long to take my English classes, it really is not as bad as I thought it would be. I mean it is challenging but I was expecting to die. So now that I look back and realize that I have gotten a lot better than when I started this semester I know that it really is a true statement that can apply to everything, practice really does make perfect. Or pretty close to it at least.

  1. Hi! I really enjoyed your blog and I find it fascinating that you like English now because of this class. It’s great to see how different classes can change a student’s perspective on a subject. I also don’t like English, but I also don’t hate it. I can’t say that this class has helped me change my views on English, but I am glad I took it because I feel more comfortable being here. Math is also my favorite subject! I like math because there is only one solution and you don’t have to do any critical analysis, you just do the work the way you’re taught. I’m so glad that your writing has improved. You quoted: “I noticed that I was an even worse writer than I am now.” I don’t think you’re a bad writer at all. You are able to create complete sentence structures and your ideas seem to be developed. I like how your title perfectly demonstrates this blog that “practice makes perfect.” We all have areas in our lives that needs improving and there is always room for improvement. Nobody’s perfect and we can just learn from our past, looking back and looking at out improvements. We shouldn’t compare ourselves to anyone else, other than who we were in the past. GREAT BLOG!

  2. I had the same issue as you, thinking for hours on what to say about this easy promt. It is amazing because we could have easily jotted down some B.S, but that is something I have gotten better at through this course. I used to jot down B.S because I did not care but now I put more thought and observation into things. Unlike you I used to love English over all the others but once I hit college it seemed like such a different level and I no longer could keep up the way I wanted to. English 103 has gotten me back into the hang of things after 101, because 101 was a very hard course…or at least my instructor was. I have the same idea about this course as you do and did. I thought it was going to knock me on my butt and hold me back but it has not been anything I thought it was. Since our course is online and so much work is given it allows me to get right to the assignments and not procrastinate as well, I hate the feeling of being rushed when I procrastinate.
